Christ’s Love Compels Us: Commissioning

Over the last month, I have been posting about 2 Corinthians 5:14-21.  If you have been convinced, as I have, that this is a call that you want to embrace for your life, I have written a short declaration that you can use to affirm this.  This is not meant to be something you have to do — it is meant for those who have been convinced and who want to solemnize their commitment.  Use it if it will strengthen your faith and walk with God, but don’t feel compelled to do something you are not prepared to do or in agreement with.

Oath of Office as a Minister of Reconciliation

Because I love God deeply from my heart,
and because I am overwhelmed by His love for me,
I am compelled to live my life for him instead of for me.
Having died with Christ by faith,
I am grateful that I am made new by Christ.
In my newness, and by walking closely with God,
I will more and more each day live the righteous life that Jesus lived.

I believe that God’s love for people is great,
and His heart is to have all people reconciled to himself.
Therefore, I willingly accept my calling to the ministry of reconciliation,
and will proclaim to others the precious message of reconciliation.
Moreover, I will also accept my calling as an ambassador of Christ,

Questions for Discussion:

1) Does this oath accurately represent and personalize what is in 2 Corinthians 5:14-21?

2) Does this oath help you to feel empowered to embrace this call on your life?
