My favorite passage and other random thoughts
My favorite verse is Mark 10:21 “Jesus, looking at him, loved him, and said to him, ‘You lack one thing: go, sell all that you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me'” (ESV). The reason I chose it is because this news was very hard news for the young man to receive, and it could have sounded cruel. But we see that Jesus looked on the man with compassion, so these words were loving words. And I am intrigued by a lifestyle of having no possessions. It certainly goes against the wisdom of the Dave Ramsey’s of the world — the wisdom of most of the American church. Something about being free of possessions frees one to be totally focused on drawing on God’s resources, since one doesn’t have any resources of his own.
